My New (Old) Bathroom Vanity

Last year, my husband and I finished a 2nd bathroom in our basement. Our second child had just become potty trained and bathroom time was becoming an issue with only one potty. So we spent 2 months and lots of $$$ and DIY'd a gorgeous bathroom. Problem is it's too nice and makes our upstairs bath look very drab. So after a few months I decided something had to be done with the main bathroom. It's functional, but it was the only white painted room left in my house and everything is builder grade. I needed to pretty it up for as little $$ as possible. The solution: new paint and a board and batten wall treatment. My shower curtain and rugs were gray as well as the countertop so we decided to keep those and paint the walls to match. It was very easy to do and was done in a weekend. Here are some before and afters. Before

It turned out nice and was a huge improvement, but that builder's grade vanity was still bugging me. I thought about painting it but was nervous. I have never painted cabinetry before and what if the paint didn't stick? What if I destroyed a perfectly good (albeit ugly) vanity. And what color? I didn't want to do white as that would be too much white so I decided to go with a darker shade of gray and took the plunge. I searched pinterest and read a bunch of blogs telling me to use wood conditioner and paint specially for bathrooms and specially for cabinetry and all kinds of other intimidating tips. But in the end I just got some valspar semi-gloss paint + primer, lightly sanded it and went for it. It turned out amazing. I also added some new hardware and for less than $30 I have a brand new vanity.
A new light fixture has also been added. :)
I am so in love with the results I just might have to paint my kitchen cabinets next. Just don't tell my husband.

Hello

So the name says it all. I am project obsessed. Well, mostly I'm just cheap. But, I'm willing to try all kinds of things to save a few $$ and I have a husband who is very handy and helps me with the manly stuff even when he doesn't always want to. :) Let me be totally honest here. I am not artistic or creative. At all. I am, however very good at taking someone else's idea and recreating it or making it my own. I want to use this blog to post some projects I have made myself as well as creative ideas I like and just want to share. I hope you enjoy!
